Top Canadian Acts Performing at Osheaga

Along with pool parties and BBQ’s it’s safe to say that festivals are a huge part of summer. If you’re a music lover you’re in luck. Canada is home to a variety of festivals that showcase an array of music genres. If you’re a fan of festivals make sure you check out our list for some of the top festivals in Canada.

One of the festivals mentioned in our previous article was the Osheaga Music and Arts Festival. Being one of the top festivals in the country, Osheaga has showcased some of the biggest names in the music industry.

Though many big names are set to perform at this year’s festival, Canadians shouldn’t overlook some of the homegrown talent that will be performing. Here’s a list of the top Canadian artists who will be showcasing their talents at this year’s Osheaga Festival.

The Arkells

This band from Hamilton, Ontario has taken the world by storm over the past few years. Winning two Juno awards for “Rock Album of the Year” and “Group of the Year”, The Arkells have gained huge success. They will be performing on the second day of Osheaga. If you’re not able to make it to the festival in time, you can check when they may be performing in a city near you.

Art Department

From Toronto, the Art Department will be showcasing their talents at this year’s festival. The Art Department consists of Jonny White and Kenny Glasgow. This duo doesn’t specialize in only one genre. From house, electronica, techno, and hip-hop, it’s hard to deny that these two have talent. The pair has performed at some of the biggest festivals in North America including Lollapalooza, Coachella, and Digital Dreams. You can catch Art Department on August 1st at Osheaga. Caribou

Straight from Dundas Ontario, this electronic group will have you on your feet while  jamming to their upbeat tunes. The group of Daniel Snaith, Ryan Smith, Brad Weber, and John Schmersal know how to show music lovers a fresh side of electronic Music. Caribou will be performing on August 1st. If you can’t catch them at the Festival, make sure to follow their Facebook Page for upcoming tour dates and locations.

Viet Cong

If you’re a fan of punk, indie and rock music, then Viet Cong may just be the band for you. This Calgary band will be showing off their unique indie rock sound on the opening day of Osheaga. Make sure to support this Canadian band! Follow them on Twitter for upcoming announcements and updates. 

A Tribe Called Red

If you want to hear some of the most unique Canadian music ever, you need to start listening to A Tribe Called Red. Winning 2 Juno awards in 2014 for “Breakthough Group of the year” and “Electronic Album of the Year”, this Ottawa group has a sound like no other. A Tribe Called Red combines their influence of hip-hop, dubstep, moombahton, and reggae music and mixes it with First Nations music to deliver some beautiful sounds. This group is truly one of a kind so make sure to catch them on the kick-off day of Osheaga on July 31st. Check out their website to discover some more of their unique sounds.

Bahamas

Bahamas is a Canadian Artist who definitely knows how to makes some great, catchy music. Alfie Jurvanen who goes by the stage name “Bahamas” is a musician from Toronto whose rich voice carries his music to another level. His second album “Bachords” was nominated for “Adult Alternative Album of the Year” in 2013. His ability to make music from numerous genres is a great talent. You may not have known this, but Bahamas was a band member for Feist until he decided to go solo. He will be performing on the very first day of the festival.
