Summer 2015 Bucket List: Festival Edition

Summer is the season of festivals. With the sun beaming down, all the smiling people everywhere, and not to mention amazing live music, you should make the effort to attend at least ONE music festival this year! These will give you the opportunity to meet new people, make some unforgettable memories, and possibly experience something new.

This summer, Canada has some great festivals coming up, which are bound to please the ears of music lovers all over the country. Whether you’re into pop, dance, metal, etc., it’s pretty likely you’ll find a festival to suit your musical taste. Here’s a quick list of some music festivals you should try to get to this summer.

NXNE (North by Northeast) June 17th-21st

In one of the most beloved cities in Canada, Toronto will be home to the North by Northeast (NXNE) Festival starting June 17th. The festival brings artists and people within the industry together. Being held at various venues around the city, NXNE showcases artists of all popularity whether they’re already well known, or up and coming.

Make sure to check out the NXNE website to see the entire lineup. You may just find end up finding some artists that you never knew you loved.

Amnesia Rockfest June 18th-21st

If you’re a Rock fan then Amnesia Rockfest is where you need to be. And if you’ve never been to Quebec, that gives you one more reason to make your way to this amazing festival.

Rockfest is Canada’s largest rock festival and this year the festival will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary. If your pockets aren’t that deep, there’s no need to worry because tickets are decently priced and if you’re coming from out of town, there’s an on-site camping option.

Pemberton Music Festival July 16th-19th

If you wanted to explore the west coast of Canada, then Pemberton Music Festival is where you need to be. This is a three-day festival located in Pemberton, British Columbia (of course) with artists from a number of different genres performing. Whether you’re into Indie, Rock, Electronic or Hip Hop music, Pemberton has something for you.

Pemberton Music Festival offers goers the option of camping and lodging, right near the mountains as well. This festival will definitely give you an unforgettable experience.

Osheaga July 31 - August 2

Osheaga is one of the most anticipated music festivals in Canada and every year the festival never disappoints. Each year, Montreal hosts the festival in an attempt to give Canadians a European-style festival experience. If you’ve never been to Montreal before, that’s an experience on it’s own but going to Osheaga will take your trip to the next level! With a mix of emerging artists as well as internationally known stars, Osheaga is the place to be this summer.

If you love Electronic Dance Music, or have a friend who loves it (like me), then you’ve probably heard of Veld before. This year, Veld will be coming to Downsview Park in Toronto August 1st and 2nd. Canada’s beloved deadmau5 will be performing along with a number of other notorious artists and DJ’s.

Vancouver Folk Music Festival July 17-19

Folk music is truly unique and holds a loyal fan base. The Vancouver Folk Music Festival gives lovers of the genre the opportunity to come together and experience some great music from amazing talents. The festival will be celebrating its 38th year this year. The festival will be featuring 60 musical acts at Jericho Beach Park.

Ottawa Bluesfest July 9-19

Every year in July, Ottawa is home to Bluesfest. Don’t let the name fool you; the festival doesn’t feature strictly Jazz/Blues artists. In fact, the festival is very eclectic and brings together artists of very different genres. There is a show to suit the tastes of people from all ages and musical tastes. Bluesfest brings people together through their love and appreciation of music, and offers them a chance to have a great time.

Some very well known Canadians bands in the line up this year include Hedley and Simple Plan. Bluesfest is one of Canada’s largest outdoor festivals and is something that everyone should experience at least once in their lives!
