David Monks of Tokyo Police Club took the stage of The Casbah in Hamilton after impressive opening performances by Basement Revolver and Fort Lean. Monks played songs from his new solo EP All Signs Point To Yes and despite only being out for a little over a week, it seemed as if the whole crowd knew all the words. His debut solo EP showcases a more bare bones and pensive sound than his work with TPC; focusing on acoustic guitar, minimal drums, and his talent for songwriting. All of which really shone through in the intimate setting of The Casbah.
Of course, Dave also threw in some Tokyo Police Club as requested by his fans. If you catch him play a show, prepare for an emotional roller coaster. He'll slow you down with the acoustic then bring you back up and really let you have it on his electric.
The last song of the night had a special guest called on stage. In proper Hamilton fashion, Max Kerman of the Arkells joined Dave and the band to play Tom Petty's American Girl and the crowd absolutely loved it. The big smiles and laughs from the guys brought a wave of energy to the place as they rocked the classic in a very good way.
